FIBER MONITORING SYSTEM
Background
In today’s competitive market, a Telco Provider must proactively monitoring their fiber optic network to ensure Excellent Quality of Service and meet customer Service Level Agreements (SLA) to maintain customer’s loyalty.
Telco Provider assets are :
• People -> Customers (SLA)
• Infrastructure -> Fiber Optic Links (Assets)
Both of them need to be maintained well in order to develope a good Business Revenue and Company
The Pain Point :
• Fiber link problems usually knowing passively from a customer complain• MTTR of Fiber link problems takes long time due to searching the location of failure point• The existing Dark Fiber’s performance not (and never) monitored as well• The field technician cannot do monitoring and testing the Fiber Optic all the time• Sometimes customer giving a penalty. There’s some problem come from an unmanaged equipment BUT they still ‘blaming’ the link's problem and not closing
Trouble Tickets (TT) soon even the link (has been) up and working normally
FMS (Fiber Monitoring System) Solution :
Is an Infrastructure physical monitoring system with automation application to provide you all information and analysis of your existing fiber optic links digitally. This monitoring system will enhance both day-today and long-term Availability which also can lead to increased the Physical Plant Security and Network Link Reliability.
Overall, this monitoring concept will:• Give you a Fast Fault Detection-Isolation and Early Detection of physical plant degradation.• Lead to decreased MTTR (network downtime) and reduced the operational costs.
A concept that give you 24x7 Monitoring and Test.
Application Usage
There are 3 types of monitoring application from FMS Solution.
Active Fiber Monitoring
Test live fibers for any degradation and guard against lengthy outages and loss of revenue.
PON Fiber Monitoring
Track, isolate, test, and troubleshoot an entire fiber network—even before it’s turned up and handling live customer traffic.
Dark Fiber Monitoring
Monitor the integrity of optical fibers without added expenses or worries about tapping into transmission fibers.
The Benefits
- Dashboard monitoring 24/7 and real-time access to your network (Dark or Live optical fibers)
- Automatic Alarm of any events/incidents occurred
- Fast Fault Detection and Isolation to Reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Repair)
- Manageable Fiber SLA Agreements
- Automatic or on demand tests of your fibers so you have the OTDR trace analysis & comparison
- Reporting and Predictive Trend Analysis to provide you an Early Warning of Fiber Optic Cable Condition
- Digital network documentation with GIS
- A Network Security against Potential Intrusions
- Integration with existing dashboard monitoring
- Available in Bahasa Indonesia
- Alert notifications for event alarms are available via SMS, Email, Whatsapp, Telegram, etc
FMS Component
There are 2 main Components need in FMS concept:
1. FMS Server
The FiberWatch™ Server controls operations between the RTUs and the clients. The Server is capable of managing more than 1000 RTUs and 100s of users.
It has an Automation Application (FiberWatch™ software) that manage and analyze any information gathered from the RTUs.
The FiberWatch™ software also can install on Cloud Server or on a Virtual Machine.
2. The RTU (Remote Test Unit)
The FiberWatch™ RTU is a test unit that installed within a fiber optic network (at fields/sites) to provide the physical interface for monitoring cables and fibers.
The FiberWatch™ RTUs monitors fiber loss and reflectance using its OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer). The RTU uses an optical switch called OTAU (Optical Test Access Unit) to test multiple fibers using its single OTDR.
The RTU has an embedded FiberWatch™ software client that allows access to the entire FiberWatch™ system through the server.
